How to stop my nails breaking and peeling?!?

Hey ive been trying to grow my nails for ages... i file them and cut them to help the growth but i have got nowhere!

They are only a few mm long and the top layer keeps peeling (errr) of every nail and they keep snapping.

I was wondering if there was anything else aside from vitamins and creams (which i already take and use) that would help??

It sounds like your nails are very thin and dry. There are a few things you can try

First, use sweet almond oil on your nails several times a day. It will moisturize and condition both your nails and cuticles and make them healthy and flexible so they won't break when they bend. Pure oil is better than creams that contain the oil.

Second, switch from an emery board for filing to a diamond dust or sapphire file. Revlon makes an excellent diamond dust nail file. common emery boards are very coarse and can shred your nails. diamond files have far finer particles and are less harsh on the nails

Third, file in one direction only, don't go back and forth, again this is shredding the nail.

Finally, use a nail strengthener. One product you have probably never heard of but is used to grow long strong nails is Mavala Scientifique penetrating nail hardener. It's not a polish or a lacquer that sits on top of the nail, it's a treatment product that you need to only use once or twice a week at the beginning, then once every two weeks after that. I learned about it from a model I worked with, she had long natural nails and when I asked her how she got them so long she shared her secret with me. One small bottle is 15$, but it will last over a year. It's difficult to find, but worth the search.

Stop filing them. Are you filing them all the time? If done wrong you are weakening the nail. Leave them alone and put on a shear polish with nail builders. (Sally Hansen). Some people can't have long nails. As long as they are kept clean and neat, that should be fine. Some women have the most unnatural, fake nails and they look horrible.
Use hand lotion liberally and rub it into your nails and cuticles. Also avoid filing deep into the sides of the nail as this could cause peeling and breakage to occur more easily.
Drink lots of milk and eat cheese that can help but id on't really like them so i use a nail strengthener you can get them from boots etc.
