Yes! Two ingredients cause it- formeldahide and torreline (spelling?). Look for products free of those. They make your nails amazingly unhealthy. Use your nail file in only one direction too. That keeps from snagging back and forth and creating loose bits that can rip up. It sounds like you may be low in vitamins. Taking a multivitamin can help with this. I would also recommend getting in touch with your dr for further evaluation of the problem.
As for the nail polish, it shouldn't but check with your dr to be on the safe side.
