Does anyone know the cause of skin peeling under the nail?

A friend of mine's skin under some of the finger nails are peeling very badly. At first it'll peel from the finger tips and gradully it'll go under the finger nail. She had this problem for many years now and the doctors she seen wasn't even sure what was the cause! Can anyone help! Thank you!Does anyone know the cause of skin peeling under the nail?
I am having the same problem and at time the cracking even bleeds. I went to doctor and she told me it was a form of dermatitis and gave me cortisone ointment. In truth, it is not helping. I have tried changing soaps, over the counter fungal meds....several types with no result. If your friend finds out, let me know. I do plan to go to a dermatologist for another opinion.Does anyone know the cause of skin peeling under the nail?
I have this problem too. I think it is from biting your nails. the bacteria from your mouth is transfered in and around the surface of your nail and skin. My guess is she is a nail-biter.

She might have a fungal infection under her nails. If the nails are discoloured and are cracking and peeling too, this might be the case. She might get better results by going to a dermatologist. A dermatologist might take a culture of the skin and determine if there is anything besides skin growing under her nails (like a fungus or something like that).
That sounds like if your friend has a bad case of fungus. Its similar like what you get on your feet. Has she ever rubbed her hands between her foot toes. U know infections like that spread rapidly. Your friend should see a specialist to infections. Good luck 2 your friend.
